The horror art of movie posters and DVD boxes
Back in the ‘ol days, movies always had artwork for their posters. Sometimes they would start with a photograph and paint-in color and other aspects of the films. These days it is more often photograph/film-still composites that make up the poster and dvd box art. I decided to take a look at some of the movie art of older horror and sci-fi films.
Depending on what year and what company released the DVD, Blu-Ray, or VHS tape (and what country) – there could be several different artwork representations for the same film. I’ve gathered alternative designs for box art and movie posters from some vintage (and some not-so-vintage) films. Enjoy!
Love all of these! I truly believe film posters today can’t hold a candle to the older ones. Thanks for sharing!
With a lot of these, the poster is even better than the movie.
I want a print of that Vampire Circus for my living room wall!
If you want the print, click this link for allposters.com http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Vampire-Circus-Anthony-Corlan-Center-1972-Posters_i9337876_.htm
I own a few of these posters myself, King Kong, Godzilla, Bride of Frankenstein, Curse of the Werewolf and Creature From the Black Lagoon, etc… ran out of space in my ‘work room’ so my wife says, “no more!”
Most impressive gallery 😉
I started collecting movie posters (repros not originals) some years ago but had no where to hang all of them. Then I discovered that certain companies print original movie poster art on postcards – I got a huge collection of those. Gotta, show them here someday.
I think you should show them off. I’m planning to start collecting them but I just know I would run out of walls soon.
I love movie posters. Once upon a time even bad films had great posters. Those were the days or something like that.
with many of these, the posters are definitely better than the films!
Dude, I LOVE the King Kong posters! Vampire Circus, too. Epic post!
I had owned one of the Kong posters (reprint) at one time but it got ruined. I still have the 9ft, Kong poster that they used to advertise in the back of Famous Monsters in the 1970’s?
Ah yes! i think I know the one. Unfortunately, I don’t have most of my posters anymore but once we move into a bigger house and I get situated with a home office I may start again and Kong will be one of my first for sure.
Great compilation of posters Vic. The King Kong posters are the most impressive to me. He’s a very dramatic monkey. (I know he’s an ape, but monkey is funnier)
