My novelette, SKIN JOB accepted by publisher for eBook release

SKIN JOB by Michael Thomas-Knight chosen for Terry M. West’s Car-Nex Project

I guess you could call this my first book publishing deal. Terry M West’s publishing company, Pleasant Storm Entertainment, has accepted my story ‘Skin Job’ to be included in the Car-Nex series of books. The novelette will be released in 2016 as part of the related story series originated by Terry’s story, Night of the Car-Nex.

More about the he Car-Nex series:
Select writers were invited to create an original story featuring the demon creature Terry invented and first wrote about in his tale, Night of the Car-Nex. The story of this conjured beast was originally published in his top-selling short-story collection, What Price Gory. Car-Nex is short for Carnivore from the Nexus and stands as the unifying thread in the subsequent book series. Much like Lovecraft’s Necronomicon, which had shown up in many other stories and mediums, The Car-Nex creature lives on in these separate tales.

My story will be released as its own Kindle book. It can be read as a stand alone piece and you don’t have to read the other tales to know what is happening. They are not chronologically connected.

However readers are also enjoying the series as a whole, purchasing other tales and seeing how different writers approach the same subject matter.
Prior to the release of SKIN JOB, you may want to read Terry’s original story, Night of the Car Nex from the What Price Gory? Collection.

You can also check out the other books in the series which have been released at different times during the year.

I wasn’t sure when I should make this announcement because a lot can happen between now and the next six months. But, the contract is signed and everything is moving forward, so I thought I would relay the info…

My Halloween tale, Bon Fire posted on Cemetery Tomes

campfire2

My Halloween fiction story, Bon Fire,
posted on Cemetery Tomes – modern gothic fiction site.

Have you ever sat around a campfire or backyard fire-pit with a group of family or friends and take turns telling scary stories. Bon Fire is about that kind of get together. Who has the creepiest tale, the most believable urban legend, who’s just recycling the same story from last year? Sit in with my group of friends and find out.

This is semi-autobiographical and makes for some traditional Halloween reading. When I was younger, we used to go camping with campfire 1friends. Besides enjoying the great outdoor scenery, the only other good part was sitting around the campfire at night, drinking Ale and telling wicked tales. (in a bar it’s beer, but when you’re in the great outdoors it’s automatically called Ale) This is what happened on one of those nights.

The story is light on horror, more like a strange tale with gothic overtones. A perfect read for all ages and with a little personalizing, a great tale to relay at your own scary storytelling get-together this Halloween.

Thank you to all the wonderful editors, site managers and fellow bloggers I’ve dealt with this year who strive to put something special into the hands of horror readers and fans out there. It’s been a pleasure working with you all.

I have about 25 written, unpublished, horror short stories that I’ll be looking to find placement for this year, as well as, many ideas for articles and blog posts that will appear here and with other sites on the web. I have yet to finish my first novel but the first draft is nearly complete. I hope to get it into the hands of some BETA readers within the first six months of 2015.

To all my fellow writers out there, good luck on your endeavors, and best wishes in achieving all you goals for 2015.

My writing in 2013 – an overview

the-great-beyond-1
Fun facts about my Fiction:

My favorite horror story I’ve written this year: Motel Impressions is a ghost story that takes place in a motel room. It is set in Long Beach NY and was sparked by a true story (of a murder, not ghosts) for which I built a fictional story around.

My favorite creature/monster that I created: The giant tentacled worm from The Gates of Lament is part Lovecraft and partly inspired by my post, Scariest Creatures of the Sea

My best opening line in a story: Upstanding Citizen The moment old lady Ambrose bent over to look in my basement window, I hit her in the back of the head with a hammer… (read more at the Carnage Conservatory)

My favorite character: Jason from The Suitcase is probably most like myself. This story takes place on Long Island and was written in 2011 when the state police were finding the remains of several female victims off of Ocean Parkway.

My favorite message/bigger meaning in a story: Holiday Icon demonstrates the hypocrisy of people during the Christmas holiday. Most of my stories have some alter/bigger meaning, moral or message. Some are more obvious than others.

The two demons in Lessons in Demonology are named after the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos – Greek mythological words that translate to ‘fear’and ‘terror’

In The Gates of Lament, there are three blatant nods to 1970’s Americana in the names of the characters.
