Karen Black, Dies August 8th, 2013

Trilogy of Terror is one of my fave horror films of all time and Karen Black played fantastic roles in each segment. She was a quirky actress playing quirky characters that seemed as if they could only have been played by her. I’m glad she had a comeback in recent years mostly thanks to Rob Zombie who plucked her out of aging obscurity to star in House of 1000 Corpses. She was not always a horror movie actress and not always the victim. She often liked to play the antagonist in sinister roles that had her dishing out the nasty as good as any evil male character. Because of this, I’m not sure if she could be considered a Scream Queen. She was often the reason for the screams. Her most famous non-horror roles were a supporting role in Easy Rider, with Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda, Alfred Hitchcock’s Family Plot in 1976, and Dog town (1997). Also, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Five Easy Peices (1970) (she won a Golden Globe for that performance). A fan favorite includes, Day of the Locust (1975). I would just like to pay respect and honor this Iconic Actress. She passed away from complications from cancer at age 74. She has appeared in over 100 movies.
